Biography
Sam Pointer, President and Principal Consultant
Sam Pointer has worked extensively with companies providing high-tech
products and with organizations in other industries seeking to improve their use
of
technology. Representative results include
- streamlining and automating the workflow of a University technology
transfer office,
- leading a software engineering team to develop a family of 10 software
products released in the U.S. and Japan, and
- leading the IT infrastructure development to support a national product
release and IPO for an Internet postage company.
Prior to founding Red Mountain Consulting, he was Vice President and General
Manager of a subsidiary of EBSCO Industries, a private multinational with over
$1 billion yearly revenue. He previously was with Macess Corporation and
Hewlett-Packard.
He received an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of California,
Berkeley, where he was a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellow, and a B.S.
in Electrical Engineering magna cum laude from Duke University, where he was an A.B. Duke
Memorial Scholar. He holds the PMP (Project Management Professional)
certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
He is a member of the Birmingham Venture Club and the Project Management
Institute.
